  His name on mortgage

As part of a divorce settlement 19 years ago I received the house. I have a quit-claim deed on it. I've made mortgage payments and will soon have it paid off. I have never had his name taken off the mortgage papers. Will this be a problem? I've worked toward this goal and want to be sure there will never be a problem. -- R. C.

ANSWER: The fact that your ex retained liability for the loan has no effect on your ownership of the property. The only problem may arise if a check is sent in both your names for the money remaining in the escrow account.
